Trevor Lesmeister

Trevor joined Progressive Rehab in 2009 after gaining experience at Theo/Open Door Group. He has experience working with clients who face multiple vocational barriers including brain injuries, mental health issues, and a range of physical disabilities. He also provides clinical counselling and employment counselling services for people in recovery with a broad range of issues.

For litigation, Trevor provides expert opinion related to residual employability, loss of earning capacity and cost of vocational rehabilitation.

Avita Sharma - Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant Registered Clinical Counsellor | MEd, RCC

Avita Sharma

Avita joined Progressive Rehab in 2001 after gaining experience from Riverview Hospital and other community rehabilitation settings. Avita is experienced in working with individuals with a wide range of disabling conditions including: brain injury, orthopaedic injury, soft tissue injury, chronic pain, spinal cord injury, and mental health. She also provides clinical psychological counselling services with a specialty in cross-cultural counselling.

Avita has presented at a number of workshops and seminars, guest lectured at the University of British Columbia on a variety of rehabilitation topics, and is an instructor for Simon Fraser University’s Rehabilitation Management Program. She is currently completing a Graduate Certificate Program in Chronic Pain Management at McGill University.

Nicole Aguilar - Consultant Occupational Therapist | BSc, MSc (OT)

Nicole Aguilar

Nicole started her occupational therapy career working in acute and sub-acute units in a hospital setting and then shifted to working in vocational rehab in multidisciplinary rehabilitation centers. She has skills and experience in functional evaluation, job site assessment, job demands analysis, pre-employment screening and return-to-work supports services. Nicole has assessed hundreds of jobs and developed return-to-work plans for individuals with complex conditions, including orthopaedic injuries, chronic pain and mental health concerns. She has strong problem solving and negotiating skills to involve all stakeholders in the coordination of return-to-work plans. She further compliments her practice with her experience in evaluating activities of daily living and home based function, equipment prescription to support function at home and in the work place, developing and implementing plans for general activation and community reintegration, and case management. She is action oriented and goal focused.

Sandy Barclay - Consultant Occupational Therapist | BSc (Kin), MClSc (OT)

Sandy Barclay

Sandy started her career in vocational rehab performing functional capacity evaluations, work site assessments, job demands analyses and return to work coordination. She has further developed her skills in community rehabilitation, conducting assessments of activities of daily living in the home setting in an inpatient/outpatient hospital unit with clients with a variety of diagnosis and injuries. She has worked with Veteran Affairs Canada providing consultation related to veteran’s needs for specialized equipment, home adaptations, rehabilitation and vocational programs. Her work has also included providing consultation in the development of protocols and guidelines to assist community, private and hospital OTs in providing relevant and comprehensive assessments and reports. Her passion for education continues as a sessional instructor for the Rehabilitation Assistant program at Capilano University. She brings her passion, extensive experience and evidence based practice to her clients in all her areas of practice.

Ashlee Bardell - Consultant Occupational Therapist | BSc (HK), MSc (OT)

Ashlee Bardell

Ashlee began her career working forensic mental health in a mental healthcare facility. She worked both in the hospital and in the community with clients with serious mental health issues, addictions, and brain injury; providing assessments, goal planning, and training in independent living skills. She further complimented these skills by delivering home, attendant care, and workplace assessments for clients who sustained injuries in motor vehicle accidents. In this setting, she worked with clients with traumatic brain injury and complex orthopedic conditions and provided support with hospital discharge, assistive technology and home modifications, seating and mobility, and return-to-work. In addition to her considerable experience, Ashlee demonstrates best evidence-based practice and astute skills with evaluating activities of daily living and functioning for both the home and workplace settings, and for clients with a combination of physical, psychological and cognitive impairments.

Jennifer Beck - Consultant Occupational Therapist | BSc (OT)

Jennifer Beck

Jennifer has over 24 years of experience in a wide range of settings and industries facilitating complex return-to-work planning and implementation. Her work has included the University of British Columbia Health Promotions, rehabilitation centres, and acute care facilities. As the Manager of Health Promotion at UBC, she led a disability management program for all UBC employees with a focus on timely return-to-work. She has clinical experience in providing rehabilitation during the recovery process in acute hospital settings, interdisciplinary pain and occupational rehabilitation programs, and has facilitated hundreds of workers with a variety of complex orthopaedic injuries to return to work. She brings a level of clinical skill, communication, negotiation and mediation skills, as well as worksite and stakeholder understanding, that promotes successful return-to-work outcomes.

Natasha Coulter

Natasha has a diverse range of clinical experience in hospital and community settings. Kathy Elissat - Consultant Occupational Therapist | BHK, MSc (OT)

Kathy Elissat

Kathy has over 14 years of experience in the areas of complex rehabilitation and community health. She specializes in working with clients who have sustained catastrophic injuries such as spinal cord injury, brain injury and complex musculoskeletal injuries. Her work has encompassed a variety of roles and programs in the field of spinal cord injury rehabilitation at GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre. She has extensive experience with wheelchair prescription, seating and positioning, home equipment, wound care/pressure management, and home accessibility/home modifications. Kathy also has a passion for education, providing regular instruction and mentorship at master’s level, has been a guest lecturer at UBC as well as participated in community outreach education around BC. Currently she is a Clinical Instructor with UBC’s School of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy. Kathy’s consulting experience includes providing and managing complex community-based rehabilitation programs to achieve maximal functional gains and independence, as well preparing cost of future care reports and consultations for medical/legal purposes.

Wayne Enright

Wayne is an original founder of Progressive Rehab and the past CEO of OrionHealth. Wayne is active in governance as the Board Chair for OrionHealth and he maintains a clinical practice of work capacity evaluations, cost of future care assessments and medical legal consulting. He is also active with regulatory work as an inspector for the College of Occupational Therapists of BC. Since originally obtaining his training in New Zealand over 30 years ago, Wayne has practiced in acute care hospitals, orthopaedics, vocational rehabilitation, psychogeriatrics, and adult and adolescent psychiatric units. He has always been a respected member of the industry and enjoys teaching and mentoring. Mark Jaschke

Mark’s practice involves all aspects of psychosocial and physical rehabilitation, and employment services. His experience includes working at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital (FPH) in Port Coquitlam, BC; and working with a number of forensic psychiatric outpatient cases while completing home and community-based assessment and intervention. Michelle Noel

Michelle’s clinical experience extends over the several stages of recovery, and a broad spectrum of injuries seen through acute hospital care, community rehabilitation, mental health residential services, and a multidisciplinary rehabilitation center. Her experience spans working with clients with various orthopaedic and musculoskeletal injuries, neurological impairments, brain injury, mental health and chronic pain conditions. This includes work with the Vancouver and North Shore Health Departments performing assessments and treatment for functional home safety, activities of daily living and home management, wheelchair seating and mobility, accessibility and environmental modification. Additionally, her experience includes working in a multidisciplinary rehabilitation centre performing functional assessments, rehabilitation and return to work programs. Jeff Padvaiskas

Jeff has been consulting and providing work capacity evaluation and cost of future care assessments for over 18 years. His experience includes community-based rehabilitation: providing ergonomic assessments, job demands analysis, return-to-work supports, home assessments, home and equipment modifications and case management. His work has spanned mild and traumatic brain injury, soft tissue, mental health, chronic pain, spinal cord, complex orthopaedic injuries and amputations. Additionally, Jeff has completed a graduate degree in Occupational & Environmental Hygiene and is currently participating in the Graduate Certificate Program in Chronic Pain Management at McGill University. He has been a guest lecturer at UBC on the topic of job site analysis/ergonomics, and at Simon Fraser University on the subject of Functional Capacity Evaluations and Cost of Future Care evaluations. She has past experience working in adolescent psychiatry and has been working in a rehabilitation capacity with individuals with various injuries for over 15 years, including traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, chronic pain, and psycho-emotional difficulties. During her time in Ontario, she performed assessments, community based rehabilitation, coordinated multi-disciplinary assessments in keeping with legislation requirements and provided training and mentorship to other team members. Tania is currently an instructor for the Cognitive Functional Capacity Evaluation course for Matheson and Associates. Her practice currently involves work capacity evaluations, cost of future care assessments, and community-based rehabilitation with a focus on working with individuals with catastrophic injuries and various diagnoses such as orthopaedic injuries, chronic pain, mental health, spinal cord, paediatrics and amputations; and providing training and mentorship for other clinicians. Shannon Smith

Shannon has a wide range of experience that includes community rehabilitation with both adults and children, return to work support, ergonomic assessment, functional and work capacity evaluations, and cost of future care assessments. Her practice has included work in both Canada and the United States. She has experience across a range of diagnoses, including orthopaedic, brain injury, mental health, spinal cord injury, neurological and chronic pain. Additionally, Shannon has post-graduate training in upper extremity function and has qualified as a Certified Hand Therapist, which brings an added level of expertise to her practice for clients with upper extremity injuries. She has been invited by WorkSafeBC to present on functional testing to the hand therapy network in British Columbia who provide treatment services to injured workers.

Lindsey Townsend

Lindsey joined Progressive Rehab in 1996 after working a number of years at GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre in spinal cord injury, brain injury, and child and adolescent services, and for Greater Vancouver Mental Health providing adolescent mental health services. She has developed a community rehabilitation practice that focuses on catastrophic injury and includes children and adolescents. She has expertise in community brain injury rehabilitation and has worked with clients in both the initial rehabilitation phase as well as longer term maintenance phase. She has experience working with clients dealing with mental health difficulties and/or chronic pain. Her additional experience includes occupational therapy services to pre-schoolers with a range of developmental delays and medical conditions.

Gary has performed hundreds of job site assessments, job demands and risk factor analyses across a full range of industries. He has contributed to the development of industry specific pre-employment functional evaluations and risk factor analyses for employers. He brings a kinesiology background as well as his occupational therapy training to his practice. Erin Webber – Consultant Occupational Therapist, BHK, MOT

Dr. Ronald Lim

Erin has worked in public and private health care settings with diverse patient populations from coast to coast. With the CBI Health Group in Halifax, NS, Erin worked as part of an interdisciplinary team coordinating all complex treatment programs (including chronic pain, brain injury, and mental health), completing functional capacity evaluations, and designing and implementing gradual return to work plans for injured workers. She has conducted hundreds of job site visits, job demands analyses, ergonomic assessments, as well as home-based ADL assessments. She was also the concussion program clinical lead for the Atlantic Provinces wherein she designed and implemented concussion protocols, and consulted with the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia (WCBNS) to advise and assist with WCBNS-specific concussion programming. Since moving to Kelowna, BC, Erin’s current practice focuses on a blend of treatment and assessment services including functional and work capacity evaluations and cost of future care assessments in insurance and medical legal contexts.
